Team Vicar - St. Mary's and St. Michael's Sittingbourne

< Back

Diocese of Canterbury

Job Description:
We are seeking an energetic, empowering and nurturing Team Vicar, to work with a committed lay team and a Team Rector, who can help us take our mission to the people of Sittingbourne. You would also have resposibility from Petertide 2013 to train a Curate. Sittingbourne is less than an hour from London and with diverse worship styles, St Michael’s is situated in the town centre and St Mary’s in a residential area; both are committed to building God’s Kingdom through our healing ministry, strengthening our work with children and families and growing our lay ministry. On 1st March 2012 a new team ministry was formed. It brought together the following churches: Holy Trinity, Sittingbourne St. Michael’s, Sittingbourne St. Bartholomew, Bobbing St. Mary’s, Sittingbourne. These four churches existed as two benefices previously: Holy Trinity, Sittingbourne with St. Bartholomew, Bobbing; St. Michael’s, Sittingbourne and St. Mary’s, Sittingbourne. These benefices have now become Parishes. These new parishes have retained all their buildings but have come together to see God’s kingdom advance in Sittingbourne. The Team Rector is a firm believer of Local Churches, Changing Nations and the importance of working together with common core values. The values we are working to are based heavily around the work and ministry of Mike Breen’s Triangle of Up, In and Out. These values do not in any way assume churchmanship or style; but they do assume the importance of relationships. These are set out very simply below: UP To have a good relationship with God. By developing an intimate relationship with God we will bear more fruit, this is seen in Jesus’ teaching of the Vine. IN To work together to be a community. Paul uses illustrations such as the Body of Christ that shows the importance of every member’ ministry. Over the last couple of years the image of the church being the Bride of Christ has helped me to work with the imagination of making the Bride more beautiful. OUT To work at transforming the world through the power and love of God.
