< BackSpear
Job Description:
Spear is looking for an Intern (11 month fixed term contract) to work on this ground-breaking, church-based training programme for unemployed 16-24 year olds. Spear equips young people to enter employment or progress into further education through training, coaching and providing job opportunities. Each course is run in close association with a partner church. Therefore it is an essential requirement that the successful applicant will become a member of the partner church. This will be either St Mark’s Battersea Rise or St Paul’s Hammersmith. The internship runs from 1st September 2012 – 31st July 2013.
This exciting role as a Spear Intern will involve delivering training in life and career skills and will teach 6 classes of students from start to finish on the course. Furthermore it will involve active recruitment of students onto the programme, provision of administrative support to the teaching team and participation in the annual Spear fundraiser. The successful applicant will be provided with professional training in a coaching qualification majoring on personal development and will be involved in all staff training sessions covering a variety of topics. Furthermore there will be the opportunity to attend external lectures and seminars on key issues facing disadvantaged young people in London.
We are looking for someone with great people skills, a highly developed emotional intelligence and an enthusiastic
and proactive temperament. Previous experience in training is not essential although a confidence in leading and motivating groups is desirable. So if you have a heart for transforming urban communities and seeing the direction of
young people’s lives radically changed, this opportunity may be for you.
The Spear programme is one of a number of initiatives emerging out of West London based charity, Resurgo Trust. Resurgo seeks to express the Christian life and faith by catalysing highly effective social transformation in London and beyond; and by drawing upon vision, skills and resources from across the wider neighbourhood in order to successfully overcome prevalent social challenges - in particular multi-generational youth unemployment. Spear has won external recognition and plaudits for its work. Having been shortlisted for the Charity of the Year Award in 2008, we were 'Highly Commended' at the prestigious Centre for Social Justice Awards in June 2009 by a judging panel of prominent MPs, social affairs commentators and respected practitioners.
The closing date for the position is Wednesday 30th May. Due to the high volume of applications, we will not be able to respond to all applicants individually. Therefore, if you have not heard from us by the 15th June 2012, you should assume that you have not been successful.
