This year’s theme was ‘Greater Love’. Around 700 people gathered at Hautlieu School for the May Bank Holiday weekend, mainly from Jersey. The main speakers were Bruce Collins, Mark Bailey and Duncan Smith (youth and young adult pastor at Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship). The worship was led by Neil Bennetts and Jules Woodbridge from Trinity Cheltenham.

Mark Bailey opened the event on the Friday night by talking about the church and challenging us as to how ready we were to be a place for the lost to find Christ. Bruce Collins led some fantastic morning Bible teachings and both he and Duncan Smith did the evening talks. There was a full programme of seminars on the Saturday and Monday. We had an evening celebration on the Sunday night open to churches throughout Jersey who joined us in such numbers that we had to overflow our main venue.

We also had a full youth and children’s programme. The youth were in a separate venue not far from Hautlieu led by Mark and Jo Nightingale with a team from Canterbury. Elaine Webster and Yvonne Scott (under 5s) headed up the children’s work, with mostly a homegrown team.

One notable healing testimony during the week was from a young person whose epilepsy was amazingly cured, something that has been investigated by medical professionals. Full of youthful enthusiasm, and certain that she had been healed, she visited a local nightclub with flashing lights just to ‘make sure!’ We would never have recommended this, but she went and she was fine.

Next year there are so many Christian events taking place in Jersey that New Wine Channel Islands will be slightly smaller than in previous years, but we’re looking forward to another great conference!
