Mark Melluish explores 'Jesus at the Temple' (Luke 2:41-52). Now, this first passage tells us a little bit about the family that Jesus belonged to. Jesus is now not in the infancy stage. He is one year away from accountability as a Jewish boy. Jewish boys became responsible for their actions at the age of thirteen and from the age of twelve they were given intensive preparation for the recognition of adulthood in their lives- the Bar Mitzvah of modern times. So, He travels with His family. Now, this is the annual trip for the Passover and was one of the highlights of the Jewish year. One of three annual festivals that would have been celebrated in the tabernacles: The Passover, the Feast of the Tabernacles and Pentecost. Any family, like Jesus’, who lived some distance away from Jerusalem, would probably only have gone to one event a year.
