Mr John McGinley
I am excited to see a fresh hunger for the Holy Spirit to move in power in New Wine at the moment as we recognise that his love and power transforms everything.

Dear Friends

“Be filled with the Holy Spirit. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. Be filled with the Holy Spirit.” These were the simple and profound words that Ying Kai began his talk at the Exponential Conference recently. I was moved by this moment not because I had never heard the message but because of who was saying it.  In 1995 Ying and Grace Kai began by training one class of 30 believers in China. They taught the trainees that each of them had a unique story to tell of how they met Jesus. They trained them to tell their story and helped them to identify five people they would share with in the following week. In a 2015 survey of the Kai’s ministry more than 1.7 million people have come to faith and been baptized. Every month trained workers start 2,000 house churches and small groups in villages, urban high-rise apartments and factories. Over 140,000 churches have been started in what is currently the world’s fastest growing church planting movement. Ying was saying ‘I haven’t achieved this by a clever method, but by the power of the Spirit’. And to have someone of such incredible fruitfulness call us back to the simplicity of ‘Lord please fill me with your Holy Spirit’ was profound – and we knelt on the ground and cried out for God to do that in us afresh.

I am excited to see a fresh hunger for the Holy Spirit to move in power in New Wine at the moment as we recognise that his love and power transforms everything. At our recent School of the Spirit and Kingdom Training Days we saw people delivered, healed and powerfully filled with the Holy Spirit. I love to see the Spirit move so clearly but it is the ongoing fruit of these moments that is significant. One leader brought 10 members of his church to the School of the Spirit. He told me that when his worship leader led worship the following day the experience of God drawing close to them was wonderfully different from anything that had happened before and other members received significant words from God. Another member had suffered for over 20 years with a debilitating phobia of being sick or others being sick near her. It had almost stopped her having children. She was delivered of an evil spirit that was behind this fear. A few days later her daughter was sick and she suddenly found herself clearing it up and caring for her daughter instead of running away. And from this her faith and testimony are touching others. This is why it is so important that we continue to press into more of all the Lord has for us by his Spirit.

All of this has to be worked out amidst the context and the church that God has called us to lead within and we will all be facing different challenges.  Responding to these is not something that can be worked out using a formula but by applying good leadership principles, using wisdom and allowing the Spirit to lead.  That is what I hope we will be doing on the following day:
