Oasis Community Church is a modern, growing, and thriving Methodist church, with a congregation of 50-80 people, diverse in age and background. Sunday morning services currently take place in Biddulph Town Hall since the church outgrew and sold its former chapel in Biddulph Park. Additional services and outreach ministries take place at its smaller premises in Church Road, Biddulph.

This role can be configured as part time or full time (37 ½), to suit the successful candidate, with a minimum commitment of 26 hours per week, including regular Sunday and some evening working. The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader, with experience of effective ministry in the church, either as staff or as a volunteer leader. We’re looking for an excellent communicator, someone who is loving, compassionate and devoted to discipleship. He or she will need excellent organisational skills and to have (or acquire) the ability to use modern forms of communication technology. Alignment with the vision and values of the church will be essential. The postholder will be supported by a committed and multi-skilled leadership team and an enthusiastic and engaged congregation. Job Purpose

To provide vision and leadership for the church in accordance with its agreed strategy and objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • To lead the church forward in its various ministries, with the active support of its church leadership team (CLT), and with due regard to the capability, capacity and commitment of the congregation.
  • To inspire, lead, encourage, and supervise the staff and ministry leaders
  • To encourage and develop the discipleship and pastoral life of the church.
  • To encourage and develop the prayer life of the church and to pray for the work of the church.
  • To evangelise, and to develop the programme of outreach and mission, liaising with ministry leaders and supporting specific ministries as needed.
  • To lead the coordination of the programme of worship, and to formulate the preaching plan, including making provision for communion (it is possible that a dispensation will be sought for the post holder to preside at holy communion)
  • To communicate effectively with the church and its extended community, including regular preaching and hosting of services and writing content for newsletters, website content and other electronic communications
  • To oversee, or conduct if required, dedications, baptisms (most often of adults and young people) and funerals. Oasis Community Church is not registered for weddings.
  • To co-ordinate the agenda for, and sometimes chair CLT and church council meetings.
  • To represent the church in the wider community.
  • To attend and contribute to circuit staff meetings and circuit meetings.
  • To carry out any responsibility appropriate to this post, as required.
  • To observe safe working practices and to ensure a culture of appropriate safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults within the church
