Overview
St Michael and All Angels (SMW) is a dynamic and growing evangelical church within the Church of England, based in Westcliff-On-Sea. On a Sunday we will have between 30-60 under 18s in attendance across our services. SMW, together with its church plants of St John’s Southend and Christ Church Southend, form a network of churches that collaborate on a variety of gatherings and events.
The purpose of this role is to continue to grow and develop our thriving and dynamic youth ministry and pastor our young people at SMW. The Youth Pastor will also contribute to Sunday service leading and preaching, particularly for all age or youth led services. The Youth Pastor will be an integral member of the staff team, accountable to the PCC and Vicar for leading and developing the youth ministry at SMW, through Sunday youth outreach, midweek youth groups, programs, and having pastoral oversight of the youth. The youth ministry relates to young people between the age of 11 – 18 years old as well as supporting the transition of those going to college, university and those maturing into young adults within the church family.
The Job
- Proactively disciple young people based on their individual circumstances and needs, helping them grow in their love for Jesus and their desire to follow Him in the world.
- Train and mentor young people to develop their gifts and calling in life, and within church, encouraging young people to be actively involved in the wider life of our church.
- Lead, oversee, and take responsibility for regular youth ministries, including our midweek youth club and Sunday youth groups.
- Develop and implement local outreach through new links with secondary schools and sixth form colleges in the area (where possible).
- Develop relationships with parents and young people and to provide pastoral care for the youth in partnership with their parents.
- Play an active role in developing youth work across the city in partnership with our network of churches.
- To prepare young people for transitions (e.g. moving from primary to secondary school, secondary school to sixth form, going on to college, apprenticeships, or University).
- Help to develop and explore the potential for making the evening service the focus for Youth ministry.
