There is some flexibility in the post for the person God is calling, and it could therefore be combined with another area of ministry (eg. worship or youth).
This is a post for one year initially but there is potential for it to become a permanent post.
St Paul’s is a large evangelical church in Leamington Spa (recently voted one of the best places to live in the UK). We have recently become a Mission Hub (a resource church) for the diocese. Our student ministry included around 50 students before the pandemic. Numbers are currently smaller and we would love to grow this ministry again.
St Pauls Leamington Spa
St. Paul’s lies close to the centre of the popular town of Leamington Spa, recently voted one of the best towns in the country to live. The congregation is drawn from the parish and a wider area.
St. Paul’s is probably the largest church in Coventry diocese. Before Covid struck, we had around 750 people of all ages who saw themselves as part of our church family, and came at least monthly (approx. 475 adults, 150 children under 11, 80 young people aged 11-18, and 50 students in term time). On an average Sunday, attendance across the different services was around 350 adults and 130 children/young people. It remains to be seen how things will settle down as we get back to a new normal. We currently have around 75% of those numbers on Sundays, with others joining online. During the pandemic, we have seen people moving on, and others joining us, including people coming to faith online.
We have seen slow, steady, unspectacular growth over the last 22 years since Jonathan Jee became the vicar in 2000. His conviction is that healthy churches will grow, and his focus was on church health. St. Paul’s did grow, and we now have a sense that it is time to look to plant new worshipping congregations (NWCs), rather than just getting bigger ourselves. The Diocese have just designated us as a Mission Hub (Resource) Church, and we are looking forward to seeing how the Lord will use us in this new season. It is an exciting time for the church.
The church is clearly evangelical and gently charismatic, and is involved with the New Wine network of churches. Our vision and values can be found on our website, together with full annual reports for the last few years (www.stpl.org.uk). These annual reports give a good sense of the life of our church family.
We are looking for a Student Worker to join our team. The pandemic has been particularly hard for students, and we are keen to see this ministry grow again. There are a large number of students living in Leamington, most of whom are part of the University of Warwick. We long to see more students come to living faith in Jesus, and become wholehearted disciples who will serve him for the rest of their lives in every area of society. We also hope that some will stay on with us as part of the New Wine Discipleship Year, some of whom could become Ministry Assistants on our staff team.
There is huge potential for the student ministry to grow at St. Paul’s, and we are looking for the right person to lead this ministry. We are praying for the Lord to call someone to join us, whose spiritual DNA and values fit closely with our own, and who will fit well into our staff team.
For the right person, we are open to this being more than a part-time role. It could be combined with ministry among our teenagers, or with our worship team, or in another area of the church’s life. The most important thing for us is to find the person that God is calling to join us.
