Referees

Volunteers come into contact with many people and are in varying positions of responsibility. It is for this reason that we ask each applicant to provide two referees.

Team FAQs

Team applications are open and will remain open until places have been filled.

To start your Team application, using the buttons above, go to the Team you want to apply for and click the APPLY button.

There is a £25 non-refundable administration charge for every team booking. Each team place is incurring increasing costs of administration (and in many cases DBS charges) which New Wine meets from its central budget. Also included in this charge is a contribution towards food costs for team members. The costs for this have increased significantly in recent years and with over 4,000 volunteers at United we need to make a minimal administration charge so that the necessary volunteer administration and management is possible for us organisationally.

One of the differences with our new booking system is that you no longer need to initially book a ticket and then apply for Team as this is now all part of the same process. What we do ask is that if you are applying for Team and are planning to camp, please enter your email address into the ‘Camping’ section on the team form. We will then send you a form to complete for camping requirements. Please note, you will only need to do this if your accommodation has not been listed on a non-team booking.

Whilst you will not be able to log in to an account to check your team application status in the same way, the relevant team leader or New Wine staff member will be in touch if further information is required for your application.

You can’t change your team application after submission, so if you need to amend anything, please email us at info@new-wine.org

This is a change that we will need to do from the office. Please email info@new-wine.org with the updated details for your referee and we will change this and send them a new link to the reference form.

Please email info@new-wine.org with the name of a new team you would like to apply to and we will switch the application over for you.

Please contact the office via info@new-wine.org and we’ll be able to help you.

Yes. If you are under 18 and applying for team, you will need to submit the contact details for your onsite parent or guardian on your application form in order to complete your team application. We will then cross check this with an attendee ticket list.

Your team leader will also have your parent or guardian contact details in case they should need to contact them.

Applications are considered at various points during the year and not on a first-come first-served basis.

Your application will not be considered until:

  1. You have submitted your completed application;
  2. Both references have been fully completed online;
  3. Your DBS application has been submitted and any relevant documentation provided to the New Wine office (only applicable if the team you are applying for requires you to complete a DBS application).

Once all the above is complete your application will be assessed by your team leader.

If accepted on to the team, you’ll receive further communication from your team leader with instructions about training days and expectations about your team role.

If you are aged 17+ and are applying for any of the following teams you will need to have an up-to-date DBS check:

  • All Kids Teams
  • All Luminosity Teams
  • Access
  • Finance
  • Medical Team
  • Our Place
  • Safeguarding Team
  • Site Services Team
  • Stewarding

Heads up! You must submit any required DBS application when applying for team. Team Leaders/Team administrators are unable to process your application until a completed DBS has been submitted AND your verified ID documents have been received. We cannot reserve team places.

Step 1: Online DBS Application

If this is your first DBS check for New Wine or your last check was more than 3 years ago, please follow these instructions:

  • Go to the Online Disclosures website usingthis link
  • Click the button titled ‘standard/enhanced DBS application’
  • When prompted, enter the Organisation Reference 13558 and the organisation code ‘NEW13558’ (case sensitive)
  • You will now be able to begin your application.

Step 2: Verifying Documents

As part of the application process, you will be asked to provide three identification documents. Details of eligible ID documents can be found here or on pages 8 and 9 of  ‘Filling in your DBS application’ . Once you have submitted your online application you will then need to have all three ID documents verified by either a church leader (eg, Vicar, Youth Leader, Kids & Families Pastor, Church Warden, Safeguarding Officer etc) or a Church Administrator.

Please forward these instructions to your nominated church leader/administrator. You can also get your documents verified by the Post Office for a small fee.

Important Note: Your three pieces of ID documentation must be within the date range given for the document in question (see here). If it is not within the required dates, your DBS application will be invalid.

Step 3: Update Service

Once you receive your DBS certificate in the post, we strongly recommend that you register with the DBS Update ServiceWITHIN 30 DAYS of the certificate being issued and you’ll not need to complete a new DBS check for New Wine or ANY other organisation when it’s the same workforce (unless they request this).

Any questions? Please see our list of DBS FAQ’s or email dbs@new-wine.org.

Thank you for agreeing to help on team this year, we are extremely grateful!

Team places are not guaranteed, as they are limited and leaders need to consider each application to ensure that each Team has the right balance of experience and ability. If you are not successful in your first choice of team, we will do our best to find you a place in another suitable team.

Team members must arrive the day before the event begins (full details will be provided by your team leaders). You must let your team leader know as soon as possible if you are unable to arrive on time, as this may affect your team application.

Please see the section below on benefits.

A note on benefits

New Wine wouldn’t exist without our army of volunteers – there are thousands! We know how important you are to the New Wine family and want to make sure you are valued.

We have to abide by HMRC rules and regulations, and we regularly check in to make sure that we remain compliant. Similarly, we are members of the NCVO, to make sure we have excellent training and understand the latest best practice in volunteer management.

As a result of this, our volunteer guidelines are regularly updated to make sure we are clear and fair across the board.

Each Team member pays a non-refundable £25 fee. This is to contribute to the significant costs of administering all the necessary management and administration, which New Wine meets the majority of centrally as an organisation.

Anything else is considered a taxable benefit by the HMRC and we are therefore unable to pay any additional gifts or offer any additional benefits, further to those already described above.

Expectation for team members

Those who volunteer for New Wine teams at United do so based on their Christian profession and way of life. As a team volunteer, your conduct on site is expected to be consistent with New Wine’s ethos and understanding of the teaching of the New Testament.

Part of New Wine’s ethos is our adherence to the Evangelical Alliance (EA) basis of faith and in submitting your team application you are acknowledging your acceptance to do the same.
