Families Pastor
@ Saint George the Martyr (SGTM)
The Families Pastor will have primary responsibility to develop, grow and
oversee the SGTM Children and Youth ministry at pre-school, primary and
secondary ages
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership
In conjunction with the incumbent, create an overall vision and strategy for
the faith development of all our children and young people
Develop strong relations with parents in church and in parish
Develop a successful children and young people’s teaching team
Work with SGTM school to develop prayer and support for children and
parents there (pupil faith group, assemblies, after-school clubs etc).
Liaise with St Albans and other church youth leaders to ensure age-
appropriate faith-building for teens in WC1 / EC1
Programme
Plan and teach Sunday curriculum, ensuring a consistent theme
throughout each week and fitting with adult teaching
Establish provision for babies and toddlers within service time and explore
options for toddler group in parish
Prepare details of lessons/crafts/music for volunteer members
Enable children and young people to take part in full-church services,
leading, worshipping and serving in age-appropriate ways
Develop our children’s faith from baptism to confirmation
Structure
Safety:
o Establish background and reference checks for team members
o Assess and secure the physical environment
Create systems of regular communication with parents and team
Maintain accurate data of children, attendance, trends, etc
Team
Recruit, screen, train, and maintain volunteer team
Create a standard training template for all team members to complete
Inspire parents to serve
Other
Oversee and/or develop rota for childcare at midweek gatherings
Continually re-assess the ministry and recognize areas for improvement
Support large events/courses/other ministries as needed to contribute to
the wider work of SGTM.
Skills/Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in leading, team building and pastoring
Passion for sharing the gospel with children and teenagers
Desire for continual self-development and learning
Willingness to ‘muck in‘ and work as part of the wider SGTM team
Ability to take initiative with creativity and systems planning
Punctuality
Professional teaching and/or youthwork/children’s ministry qualifications
and experience desirable
Hours and pay
20 hours a week
£ 20 p/h
