Role Profile 

To provide leadership & administrative oversight of all aspects of our community ministries and to further develop Sutton Vineyard as a compassionate worshipping community that makes a difference in our borough.

Key responsibilities 

  • To provide leadership and administrative oversight to Sutton Vineyard's* community ministries in accordance with the church's vision, values, and culture.
  • To organise and lead team meetings and prayer times and to plan and oversee the delivery of team training.
  • To be an active member of each of our community ministries, providing support and coaching to volunteer leaders and developing future strategies for our community ministries as a whole at Sutton Vineyard.
  • To build teams & develop leaders in line with the leadership ethos & practices of the church, liaising with other pastoral staff leaders.
  • To be a part of our wider pastoral team, offering pastoral support where appropriate. 
  • To liaise with external organisations, developing relationships across the borough. 
  • To create a cohesive compassion culture within Sutton Vineyard, championing our value of being a compassionate church. 
  • To manage the budgets of each community ministry, support volunteer leaders in actively managing stock, assets, and teams, and work alongside the Senior Pastor to actively seek further grants and other monies to further the community work of Sutton Vineyard.
  • To ensure best practices for all community teams, including good health and safety, safeguarding, and food hygiene, across all our Compassion ministries and to look after the well-being of volunteers.
  • Share responsibility for Safeguarding within the church, be part of the safeguarding team, and be trained to this level.
  • *Currently, these are: Lighthouse (Growbaby), Warm Welcome, Wendy House, and Grace Advocacy.
  • Other requirements
  • Carry the church’s culture of Christian values and practices into all aspects of the role, including interactions with external parties, clients, church members, and the staff team.
  • Play a full role in the Christian practices of the team, e.g. prayer & worship times, demonstrating a clear, personal commitment to the Christian faith.
  • Comply with our operating policies/procedures, including Health & Safety and safeguarding policies.
  • Contribute positively to the effective running and development of the church.
  • Undertake any training or personal development as required. We expect all our staff at Sutton Vineyard to engage with opportunities to grow and develop. 
  • Any other duties reasonably requested by your Line Manager.

Experience and Skills

The successful applicant will be passionate and engaged in Sutton Vineyard's vision and purpose and will be able to apply that passion to this role. 

  • Passionate about community ministries and seeing our church mobilised and empowered to serve our local community, particularly fulfilling our Vineyard value of compassion.
  • Previous involvement in working with volunteers and teams.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication.
  • Good level of IT skills.
  • Self-motivated and highly organised.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise workload.

The successful applicant will need to provide evidence of their eligibility to work in the UK and complete an enhanced DBS check. 

Any offer of employment will be subject to two satisfactory references being obtained.

Role Details 

Hours of work:32 hours per week 0.8 FTE. 4 hours to be worked on a Sunday morning, with the remaining hours split, as agreed, across Monday-Friday. The successful candidate will be expected to have at least two full days off a week.

Occasional evening/weekend team meetings and leader’s meetings will be required (in lieu of some midweek hours).

Reporting to:Senior Pastor

Principle Workplace: Stayton House, 93 Stayton Road, Sutton, Surrey, SM1 2PS 

Pay:£27,955.20 per annum (FTE £34,944) plus pension 

Contract Period:This is an initial 1-year contract with a 6-month probationary period. There is the potential that this role may be extended or converted to a permanent role in the future, subject to funding.

Start Date:September 2024, depending on the availability of the successful candidate.
