JOB DESCRIPTION

SPIRITUAL LIFE:

  • Maintain a personal vibrant and passionate faith in Christ.The spiritual life of the Worship Pastor should form a foundation for the role. We would love to help you grow in your relationship with the Lord to ensure your work for the Lord flows from a life that is rooted in Christ and indwelt by the Spirit.
  • Devoting sufficient time to personal prayer and the study of scripture.
  •  Playing a full and active part in the life of the church and the staff team through prayer and worship.
  • Be fully committed to Jesus and ensure your work is delivered in a way that meets the ministry and missional vision of the church.
  • Take Appropriate Study Days/Retreats
  • up to 3 days p.a. in lieu of Mondays.

LEADERSHIP:

  • Be part of the Staff Team
  • Attend staff meetings and occasional training days and residentials.
  • Liaise with the vicar, clergy and other relevant staff members to review the previous week’s services and plan the upcoming services.
  • Liaise regularly with theClergy and Service Leadersregarding the overall provision and style of sung worship for all our Sunday services, taking the lead on ensuring Sung Worship is aligned with the church vision.
  • Leading and Enabling Sunday Worship
  • Seek to grow the worshipping life at Christ Church alongside the other church leaders, and to think and plan strategically, and to consider how sung worship and music can be integrated into other ministry areas.
  • Lead worship regularly (typically one service a week) including choosing and preparing songs.
  • Play within a worship band in a service regularly (typically one service a week), supporting the Worship Leader as required.
  • Arrange cover/ step in and cover when Worship Leader not available.
  • Leading / Enabling Worship on Other Occasions
  • Festivals - Coordinate Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Ascension, Bereavement Service, Christmas Carol Service, Christmas Eve Midnight, Christmas Morning
  • Midweek church events, e.g. Prayer Meetings
  •  Weddings and Funerals (separate payment made)
  • Liaise with other related ministry areas (tech teams for example)to build and maintain strong relationships and identify areas of opportunity.

ADMINISTRATION:

  • Oversee the creation and management of the worship team rotas for Sunday services and other events.
  • Oversee the content of the CCA song folder
  • Maintaining a digital list of songs.
  • Co-ordinate the introduction of new songs.
  • Create chord sheets & digital chord sheets.
  • Maintain the list of songs used accessible to worship leaders.
  • Arrange for the songs used in services to be reported to CCLI by a member of the team and oversee this to ensure the reporting requirements are met.
  • Oversee the maintenance and improvement of music equipmentas required in church (within a Worship Team budget).

EQUIPPING:

  • Oversee and build the CCA Worship Teams
  • Oversee the recruitment of new people into the worship teams - an initial discussion and audition where appropriate.
  • Organise and lead meet ups for worship leaders and worship teams, focusing on the teams and the overall vision of worship for Christ Church Abingdon.
  • Provide regular encouragement and prayer for the worship teams
  • Aim to equip willing team members to take on administrative or Worship Leader responsibilities, creating sustainable succession across the teams.
  • Provide constructive and encouraging feedback to Worship Leaders as appropriate to build confidence and enable CCA sung worship to keep flourishing.
  • Arrange suitable training as required. Maintain active awareness of worship trends in the wider Christian community and be willing and able to introduce new songs and forms of worship.
  • Liaise with the Youth Bands at LF and NCR; integrate of youth band members into the worship teams as appropriate.

OTHER:

  • Liaise with our Technical Teams to ensure co-ordination of equipment and process changes.
  • Uphold all relevant church policies, e.g. Safeguarding, social media, health and safety, GDPR.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

  • A love for Jesus, commitment to Bible reading, prayer and worship and an openness to the Holy Spirit.
  • Sees this appointment as a calling to serve rather than simply a career.
  • Strong vocalist and confident player of guitar and/or keyboard to enable role modelling for other Worship Leaders.
  • Experienced in leading a worship band in both contemporary and more traditional styles.
  • Passion for leading worship with a good understanding and insight of the importance of worship and music in church life.
  • Be guided by the Holy Spirit and actively listen to God’s direction when leading worship and when exploring the wider vision of this ministry.
  • Experience of producing and managing rotas.
  • Is at present either an active member of our church, or is an active member of another church but is prepared to become a member of the worshipping community at Christ Church.
  • Fully supports the vision and values of Christ Church.
  • Is a team-builder and a good team player, and enjoys working collaboratively with other people, including co-leading in Worship.
  • Has experience of training and equipping others in providing musical worship.
  • Has strong interpersonal skills, including good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Is a self-starter and has the ability to take initiative and accept responsibility.
  • Is reliable, trustworthy and recognises the confidential nature of some aspects of the role.
  • Is comfortable and proficient with using a range of technology and software in an office environment, including Microsoft Office software, e-mail and content management systems.
  • Has strong organisational skills, copes well with pressure, is persistently resilient, tenacious in problem solving, keeps to deadlines and pays attention to detail.
  • Has a can-do attitude and adopts a flexible approach to getting things done.

DESIRABLE

  • Ability to read music and transpose for different instruments.
  • Experience carrying out administrative tasks.
  • Experience using ChurchSuite.
  • Some understanding of operating a sound desk and setting up audio equipment.
