Description of Job

Overview

We are seeking to appoint a part-time Worship Team Leader who will oversee the worship life and creative ministry of the church. This will involve leading, coordinating and working with a large team of volunteer musicians and technicians. The person will also be a part of a wider staff team, working collaboratively with both the Lead and Families Pastor, and also with our Operations and Hub Manager in ensuring we meet our vision to be a Good News Church following an extravagant God.

This will be the first time we will be appointing someone to join our staff team to lead our worship ministry. The appointment therefore reflects the high value we place on this aspect of church life.

Key Responsibilities

Take overall responsibility for the provision of musical worship at Woodbridge Quay Church, working closely with the Lead Pastor and Elder responsible for Worship.

Work collaboratively with Service Hosts and Preaching Team about musical requirements for Church services.

Attend regular staff meetings and events and attend quarterly review meetings with the Lead Pastor.

The role will include overseeing the provision of worship at all church events, from Sunday worship, mid-week events, conferences, rites of passage and staff meetings.

A key part of the role will be the development and equipping of members of the church to be involved in the worship band both as musicians and on the AV side.

Manage the Worship and AV budget to ensure adequate resources are in place to deliver our vision for worship.

Ensure new people are brought in, encouraged, and trained as appropriate.

Develop the strategy of the worship team in consultation with the Lead Pastor and Elder responsible for Worship. This will involve developing the subtle differences between our two services and leading worship in a way which both takes those differences seriously and grows our love for God and whole-life worship.

A successful candidate will:will:

Essential:

Have a living faith in Jesus Christ that informs everything that they do in their role.

Have a passion for and a proven track record of leading congregational worship, and ability to lead people into encounter with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Have an openness to the Holy Spirit in leading the church into worship.

Be an excellent musician (at least equivalent to Grade 5) with a good understanding of contemporary Christian worship.

Be a leader who can develop the worship ministry and coordinate other worship leaders / musicians, helping to provide a consistent feel and approach enabling vibrant, accessible worship in our Sunday services and at other times.

Be able to develop people in their gifts through training and support and see themselves as an encourager and enabler.

Model Servant-hearted Leadership

Show some evidence of theological formation, whilst not necessarily from a degree or college background, there will have been some form of engagement with the subject of theology in worship.

A sense of calling to the church and to mission in the local community.

Strong inter-personal skills and positive demeanour.

Be a resilient character, with strong emotional intelligence. Able to cope with unjustified criticism, but willing to grow as a leader when adjustment is necessary.

Be proficient and capable in the use of digital technology, online platforms and demonstrate good ICT skills.

Be aligned to our evangelical values, and in agreement to the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith

Whilst not necessarily needing to come from a Baptist background, have a desire to be in covenant relationship with the church, and work towards our church vision and strive to live out our values by becoming an active member of WQC.

Desirable:

A Bible college degree

A knowledge of, and ability to oversee, the audio-visual teams. We want to try to create the feel of ‘one team’ which includes both the musicians and the technicians.

Knowledge of ProPresenter and ChurchSuite

The ability to fulfil the administrative tasks required behind the scenes to enable worship to happen.

As a growing church with a growing staff team, it may well be that the successful person brings other gifts and passion beyond worship ministry where we can add additional hours to the role. We are very open to this and there will be the opportunity to explore this further upon application and at interview.

We would expect and encourage the Worship Team Leader to develop and enjoy exploring their own musicianship, deepen their understanding of the theology of worship, and sharpen their skills and gifting of being a practitioner of leading worship.

Work Expectations:

·      The role holder must be available to work at a selection of key events at church which could include Christmas services, Easter services and Big Family Day Out

·      Whilst we are a growing church, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will be a team player and will be flexible in their role to fill gaps in areas of ministry where there is need.

Woodbridge Quay Church

Woodbridge, Suffolk

Woodbridge Quay Church is popularly known as The Church with the Hands' on account of our large hand sculpture in our church grounds, but also because we want to be the hands of Jesus in bringing blessing to Woodbridge and the surrounding areas.

Here at Quay we are very much a family Church, with all ages and stages of life represented among us, and a strong culture of wanting to grow closer to God and to one another.

Quay is also a growing church, with over 300 adults and children regularly attending our services over the course of a month. It is because of this growth that we want to invest in additional staff roles.

We are an outward looking church, with a big mission to share and show the Good News of Jesus wherever he has placed us.

Perhaps God is calling you to play your part in the adventure He is taking us on?
