Description of Job

ABOUT ALL SAINTS: There has never been a more exciting time to join the team at All Saints. As part of a new project to revitalise the church for the Island, we are planting the first-ever contemporary service into the Church as part of the HTB network of churches (including Harbour Church Portsmouth). We are currently building an amazing team to bring the vision to life. So, this is a rare opportunity to join a new foundational team and community and to be part of the team that sets the vision, values, and culture for the next phase of ministry at All Saints as we explore what it looks like to play our part in the evangelisation of the nation, the revitalisation of the Church, and the transformation of society.

ABOUT RYDE: Ryde is just a 10-minute journey on the hovercraft from Portsmouth Harbour. Ryde is known as ‘the gateway to the Island with several main travel points located within it. It also has a long stretch of sandy beach and lots of independent shops and cafes. The largest town on the Isle of Wight with a population of 37k. The Church is a landmark on the island with the spire visible from many places around the Isle of Wight and from the mainland projecting beyond the town skyline. The socioeconomic makeup of the town is very mixed and it is a great vibrant place to live and work.

ROLE PURPOSE:This role is a rare opportunity for someone with a passion to lead others into worship and encounter to build and lead a team at a church that has never had a formal contemporary service before but in a community with a huge hunger for it. Prayer and worship is at the heart of everything we’re seeking to do at All Saints, and this is a pivotal role, the purpose of which is to help establish and lead contemporary worship at All Saints. We want to create a passion in our community for lifting the name of Jesus, and we need a Worship Leader to create a passion in people to praise and pursue an encounter with the living God. We feel this role will be incredibly rewarding as there is a huge hunger in the community for contemporary worship.

KEY TASKS AND DELIVERABLES

KEY TASKS AND DELIVERABLES

  • Create an environment where our community can enter the presence of God - ensure the quality of worship on Sundays and at other events such as (Alpha, team nights, youth etc.)
  • Help lead and build the dream team - Lead the in recruiting new musicians and production volunteers to serve, identify and cultivate new talent in the congregation or interns. Run auditions/ issue invites or create other processes and ways of identifying talent.
  • Lead with competence and heart – Organise, equip, and supervise the worship and production team, provide honest but gracious feedback to ensure volunteers are serving in the right roles and capacities, and continuously improve the quality of our worship. Provide pastoral care when needed to the worship team, lead them in prayer, and encourage them to continue to pursue God. Schedule and run worship & production rehearsals. Oversee the care and storage of musical and production equipment.
  • Ensure services flow – Coordinate with the Team Vicar for Contemporary Worship/Service Leader(s), and/or the scheduled speaker for events, to determine the running order for the service, and any special themes for the service to ensure the length and content of the worship music is appropriate for that service (this will be routinely done at weekly meetings), but may require some planning for events. In addition to equip others with all aspects of audio-visual production systems to help everyone interact fully.
  • Select music –Work with the team vicar on selecting quality, relevant Christian worship music that is theologically sound, relevant and appropriate for the service/event, and appropriate for the skill level of the team. Prepare the musical arrangement for the team to rehearse songs.
  • Be the Team – as All Saints has never had a contemporary worship service before, this is really a church-planting opportunity. We’re therefore looking to build a team of people who are energised by helping one another and who want to serve the wider vision of the church rather than work in team-specific silos. While most of your work will be worship-related, we’re aiming to be a close-knit team who all help each other and where no one is left with too much on their plate or a task they can’t manage. This means we’ll all help you with your work as needed, but in turn, we expect that you’ll help when needed with other projects as well. We think church is just more fun this way, anyway!
  • Learn and grow in community – we want to take our team time seriously, to pray for one another, and to help each other grow in our faith and giftings. So, we want a Worship Lead who is excited to participate in weekly team meetings and quarterly vision days and has a desire to keep developing their skills, learning, and to create a culture where helpful and gracious feedback is encouraged at all levels. This will mean having a flexible attitude (being able to let go of something that hasn’t quite
  • worked or improve an area that needs improving) and being a proactive member of the team- prepared to give and receive feedback openly.
  • To play your part in reaching out identifying and delivering ministry and missional opportunities through music in schools and our wider community.
