Job Description: Children's and Families Worker
Employed by: Clifton Parish PCC
Responsible to: The Youth, Children’s and Family Work Management Committee of PCC, and reporting to the Incumbent, or someone designated, with PCC agreement.
Work Areas: Clifton Parish Churches and the locality.
Hours of work: 20 hours per week
Salary: £14,051 for 20 hours per week.

Vision: Clifton Parish Churches are looking to appoint a Children and Families Worker to encourage the spiritual growth of children up to the age of 11 years and families within our 3 churches and develop the vision to reach out to those in the wider community. This is an established position ready for the new postholder to expand and develop our existing work with children and families. This role includes working with children in each of our three churches, local primary schools and the local community.
Key Tasks
● Support and develop the ongoing activities for children and families within the Parish.
● Develop the existing programme of children’s work delivered across the 3 churches on Sunday mornings.
● Work with the staff team to develop a clear strategy for the growth of children’s and families’ work within the 3 churches and local community.
● To develop our new monthly Sunday afternoon service, called Connect, which is aimed at children & families.
● Recruit, train, support and motivate teams of volunteers from the 3 churches to resource the children and families work.
● Develop and expand our existing team of volunteers to resource our work with children and families.
● Encourage and support family members as they explore the journey of faith with their children.
● Expand our current programme of activities for children and families in the wider community.
● Build on existing links with primary schools and other local Christian groups e.g. (York Schools & Youth Trust (YOYO)) working with children and families.
● To work in accordance with Parish Policies on Safeguarding, Health &
Safety, Risk Assessment and Data Protection.
● The ability to work well as a team leader and team member with strong
organisational and planning skills.
● To work collaboratively with our Youth worker and the staff team.
● To participate in regular staff meetings and prayer meetings with the
leadership team.
Terms and Conditions
● Salary: as above
● Hours of work: 20 hours per week worked flexibly around the activities/ events for children and families.
● Opportunities for study, training & networking.
● 1/2 day per month for personal retreat.
● 6 weeks annual leave per year and Bank Holidays. Pro rata.
● There is an expectation that you will worship in one of the churches in the Parish.
● There is an expectation that you will be in the Parish for major Christian festivals like Christmas and Easter - time off in lieu will be given.
● All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed, and a small allowance made available for training and books.
● Appointment is subject to TWO satisfactory references, Enhanced DBS check and proof of qualification (where appropriate).
● Appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

● Vibrant and committed Christian with the passion to see children and families come to know Jesus and grow in faith.
(There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) that the holder of this post is a practicing Christian. Equality Act 2010).
● A person who values regular Bible Study and prayer as part of their daily life.
● A commitment to engage in ongoing professional development through training courses, academic study relevant to the post.
● Experience of working with and implementing safeguarding policies and procedures including Data Protection.
● Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate, build relationships and communicate effectively in a variety of contexts.
● Passion and vision for creative ways to share the gospel with children and families.
● Experience in leading and ability to train volunteers.
● Competent IT skills across a range of platforms.
● Ability to work well as team leader, a team member and to be a self-starter.
● Working knowledge and experience of working in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
