Key Objectives:
The Kids Pastor (GS Central) will have pastoral oversight of children (0-11) who attend GS Central. They will be responsible for delivering the weekly programme of kids work at GS Central as well as recruiting, envisioning, and raising up a team of capable, passionate, and committed volunteers.
They will implement the vision of Gas Street Kids with a remit for growth and future development as well as building on the existing platform of Kids and Families work outside of Sundays; nurturing families on their faith journey by creating, implementing and developing new missional opportunities.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Develop and lead a dynamic children’s ministry at GS Central.
- Pastoral care of children (0-11’s) at GS Central
- Plan, lead and facilitate regular events outside of a Sunday that build community with GS Central children and families and those from the broader local community.
- Recruit, train, equip and lead a team of volunteers; empowering them to use their own strengths and gifts.
- Facilitate and lead the Sunday programme at GS Central, working with other team members where appropriate
- Facilitate and lead the special events, working with other team members where appropriate, including Worship for Everyone, Easter and Christmas gatherings, Holiday clubs, Stay & Play etc.
- Foster relationships with local schools to include leading assemblies, special events, services and supporting the delivery of lessons
- Organise rotas and team for Kids groups on Sundays and other activities
- Lead termly team nights
- Communicate with parents and families to build relationships and deepen connection
- Contribute to planning and preparation of curriculum and resources
- As a key member of the team you will attend regular meetings (including prayer meetings) with ministry, staff, departments and volunteer teams
- Contribute to Worship for Everyone gatherings
- Develop new ministry opportunities, with a particular focus on Parenting for Faith
- To ensure that Gas Street’s Safeguarding policy is implemented in liaison with the Head of Safeguarding
- Other general support to the Gas Street Kids Team as needed
Person Specification:
- Experience of children’s work, preferably in a church setting
- Excellent pastoral skills
- Exceptional leadership and management skills
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
- Preferable experience of working in or with schools
- Passionate to see children grow spiritually in the love and worship of Jesus Christ and in their love for one another and their community
- Ability to engage and inspire children, build trust and gain respect
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Be flexible and innovative, able to adapt to changing circumstances and to develop new ways of working
- Ability to juggle a broad range of responsibilities
- An open heart and a ‘can do’ attitude
- Good time management skills with proven ability to prioritise workload
- Good administrative skills
- Personal walk with Jesus underpinning a lifestyle of integrity
- A willingness to work with Gas Street’s values
- There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder be a practising Christian
- This role will require an enhanced DBS check
Working requirements:
- Full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours per week)
- 25 days annual leave (pro-rata)
+ statutory bank holidays
+ three additional days at Christmas
+ three retreat days across the year (one per term)
