About Us
St Gregory’s is a lively and welcoming Anglican church, launched in March 2023 to serve Newquay and the surrounding communities. We are a place where people of all ages are invited to explore and grow in faith together.
We are passionate about following Jesus, worshipping as a community, and serving those around us, both locally and further afield. A key part of our life together is our vibrant children’s and youth ministry, where young people are nurtured in faith and encouraged to thrive. We have Sunday groups for kids, midweek sessions for babies, toddlers and families, youth groups on Sundays and during the week, and great connections with our local schools. Altogether, there are 66 children and young people on our books, with around half regularly engaging.
St Gregory’s also seeks to be scattered; living out our mission as a faithful presence within and for our local communities. We aim to embody God’s love in practical ways, including through our CAP Debt Centre which offers hope and support to those facing financial difficulty.
We long to be a place where everyone can belong, grow in their relationship with God, and be equipped to live out their faith in everyday life.
About the Role
To ensure we find the best fit for this role, we’re open to exploring different options. This may include appointing one person to a combined Kids, Families & Youth Lead role, or splitting the position into two part-time roles: one focused on Kids & Families, and one on Youth.
We believe children and young people aren’t just the future of the church — they’re a vital part of who we are right now. We’re looking for someone who shares that passion and is excited to walk alongside our kids/youth as they discover more about Jesus and what it means to follow Him in everyday life.
This role is about creating spaces where children/young people feel welcomed, valued, and encouraged to grow in faith and friendship. You’ll shape Sunday groups, midweek gatherings, and special events that are fun, engaging, and full of life — working alongside a brilliant team of volunteers, our staff team, and families across the church.
If you love Jesus, enjoy getting stuck in with children and teenagers, and have the creativity and energy to inspire the next generation, we’d love to hear from you!
About You
We’re not looking for perfection — we’re looking for someone with a heart for Jesus and a heart for young people.
You’ll be someone who:
• Loves being with children/young people — listening to them, cheering them on, and pointing them towards Jesus.
• Brings creativity, energy, and joy to your work.
• Thrives as part of a team and enjoys drawing others in to serve alongside you.
• Is flexible and organised, able to lead confidently while managing your workload well.
• Longs to see children and young people flourish in faith and in every area of life.
• Has a passion for Cornwall and the wider Newquay area; keen to engage with schools and youth groups.
• Can work independently, generating and running with new ideas.
• Is committed to your own spiritual and emotional growth.
• Can talk about Jesus naturally with those who don’t yet know Him.
• Receives feedback with humility and is eager to learn.
• Adapts well when new opportunities or unexpected challenges arise.
• Enjoys being part of a team where there’s space for laughter and friendship.
• Is confident engaging with parents, carers, and other community partners.
• Helps others feel safe, welcome, and at ease.
Most of all, we’re looking for someone who will help make St Gregory’s a place where the next generation feels welcome, seen, and truly at home.
Key Responsibilities
• Where the role is split, work closely with the other postholder to build a consistent culture, and an integrated approach to children, youth, and families across the life of the church.
• Root all areas of kids/youth ministry in our vision to wholeheartedly follow Jesus and serve Him in Cornwall and beyond.
• Ensure all ministry with children and young people follows St Gregory’s Safeguarding Policy.
• Prayerfully discern how the wider church vision can inspire your own creativity in developing ministry — including Sunday groups, midweek gatherings, schools engagement, and community outreach.
• Pioneer new opportunities for mission and connection with local families and children/young people.
• Work with the Church Leader to integrate children/youth into the wider life of the church, with particular support for those with additional needs.
• Identify, recruit, and nurture volunteers, providing encouragement, training, and support.
• Actively connect with wider children’s and youth initiatives within our mission area and the wider region, including community-led activities, schools, other churches, and events such as Creation Fest or Glow.
• Oversee kids/youth volunteer teams, helping them flourish in their roles.
• Manage the kids/youth budget and resources.
• Organise children’s/youth activities at church-wide events and socials.
• Take part in staff meetings, retreats, and conferences as needed.
• Be a flexible part of the staff team, willing to take on additional tasks.
Key Skills & Experience
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
• Experience leading and teaching groups of children/young people in a fun, engaging, and relevant way.
• Confidence in planning and delivering activities for a range of ages and backgrounds.
• The ability to recruit, lead, and train volunteers.
• A good understanding of safeguarding and risk management.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
• Competence with IT (Word, Excel, Email & ideally ChurchSuite), and confidence using technology.
Hours & Salary
• If Full-time role: 35 hours per week, including Sundays and some evenings
• If Part-time (Kids & Families) role: 2–3 days per week, depending on the candidate, including Sundays.
• If Part-time (Youth) role: 2–3 days per week, depending on the candidate, including Sundays and some evenings.
