Associate Vicar

St Barnabas Church London / Greater London

Description of Job

We are looking to appoint an Associate Vicar who will work alongside the Vicar and Staff Team in leading the church into the next stage of its ministry and mission.

St Barnabas Kensington is a dynamic and growing church in West London marked by a rich cultural diversity that we see as a sign of God’s kingdom and a springboard for creative mission.

Our vision is to be a kingdom community welcoming all in Jesus’ name, growing together as his disciples and stepping out in God’s mission to all nations.

Three words sum up how we are looking to put this vision into practice, all of them inspired by the example of Barnabas in the New Testament: ENCOURAGE, EQUIP, EMPOWER. Taken together, these describe our church culture and underline our commitment to Jesus-focused ministry and mission in the Holy Spirit, and our dependence on God the Father who opens doors for the furthering of his kingdom.

At a time when our church is growing both in numbers and outreach, the Associate Vicar will have a key responsibility for developing and implementing a discipleship and pastoral care strategy within our local church community. This is currently focused on our growing network of small discipleship “Table Groups”, training courses (online/in person), women’s and men’s ministry, pastoral visits, prayer and prayer ministry appointments.

Central to our ministry is the active involvement of church members through ministry and service teams (welcome, prayer, services, group leaders, etc). All of these will be called to evolve as part of a strategic plan for growth in which the Associate Vicar will play a key oversight role.

The Associate Vicar will be a self-motivated leader who will work as an integral part of the church Staff Team.

We are looking for someone who
• loves people deeply and has strong pastoral skills
• thrives on cultural diversity
• is a dynamic and experienced leader with a track record of leading teams and helping implement vision
• values being part of a team and empowering others
• is a gifted and clear communicator and Bible teacher
• has a passion for mission and creative outreach
• encourages others in their development and faith
• loves Jesus and seeks to walk and minister by the Holy Spirit
• has a good sense of humour (and doesn’t take themselves too seriously)
• Knowledge of French would help (but is not indispensable)
