The Parishes of St Helen’s Ore with St Barnabas and Christ Church Ore are looking for an experienced and versatile operations manager to support the running of the parishes.

We are a group of three churches working across two parishes in the vibrant seaside town of Hastings.

We are looking for an operations manager to join our growing team.

25 hours per week - £11.50 per hour

Monday to Friday 9am to 2pm

Although regular hours are to be worked these may be worked on flexible basis when agreed with line manager.

Based at the Parish Office of St Helen’s, the successful candidate will need to fulfil a range of duties including: 

Providing administrative support to the Priest-in-charge, churchwardens, and treasurer. 

Deal with Parish enquiries and correspondence, produce orders of service, and other documents as required.

Oversee and produce the publication of the monthly Church newsletter. 

Design and produce promotional print material for ministries and special services.

Maintain ChurchSuite, web-based church management system and database. 

Maintain and update the Parish Websites and Social Media accounts.

Manage Church diaries including the bookings of weddings, baptisms and funerals liaising closely with the relevant service leader.

Monitor the receipt and upkeep of statutory documentation for Church records. 

Produce annual reports as required.

Responsibility for hall bookings and lettings.

Oversee Church premises including the upkeep and maintenance of furniture and equipment, supervise and manage the cleaning staff, ensure insurances are up to date.

Communicate with the Church Wardens and Priest-in-charge in respect of any maintenance requirements of the Church buildings, appoint and liaise with contractors as required. 

Attend regular line management meetings as appropriate.

To undertake relevant training as deemed necessary.

Produce and distribute church rotas.

Liaising with treasurer in administration of church finances. 

Keeping utility payments up to date, managing payments, meter readings etc. 

This list is not exhaustive, and you may be required to fulfil other duties from time to time. 

The successful candidate will be able to work on their own initiative but should be able to liaise and communicate with colleagues and parishioners alike. A good telephone manner and strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, and it is expected that applicants will have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel. It would be an added benefit to have knowledge of Data developments or a similar accounting system and experience on online and print design. You should also be familiar with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations. 

It would be of benefit if candidates have an understanding of Parish life and an appreciation of the Christian ethos. 

This role is subject to a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the provisions made in the Equality Act 2010 that the post holder is a Christian and has an active faith in Jesus.

Appointment is offered subject to satisfactory DBS clearance and satisfactory references.
