STEWARDING

Our Stewards are crucial in ensuring the event runs smoothly and is a safe and secure place for everyone. The team directs and co-ordinates delegates, volunteers, contractors and suppliers around the site, so we are looking for people who are confident, reliable, decisive, calm under pressure and able to do all this with a smile!

As with most teams, you’ll get a free ticket to the event (except for the £25 fee that covers admin and all meals); you will need to provide your own accommodation (either on or off site).

Our teams work in shifts, the nature of which will vary depending on which of the three Stewarding teams you apply for:

Stewarding – General (Day) Team

This team covers the bulk of the site (including some seminar venues) and involves ensuring safety and assisting in any way to help things run smoothly between 8am and midnight. Stewards need to be polite, friendly and outgoing, good at communicating clearly, calm under pressure and able to be assertive if necessary.

Each team rotates across various shift times, covering a range of different duties. This system gives everyone variety, as well as ensuring that duties are fairly distributed. You will be advised your shift team and times before the event starts.

  • Hours: 8 hours per day (on average) on a rotating shift pattern, made available prior to the event.
  • Expectation: You will spend much of your time standing/walking outside (whatever the weather), so warm clothing, waterproofs, sturdy footwear and stamina are essential!
  • Age: 17+

Please note that all the venues have their own teams, separate from the Stewarding team.

Stewarding – Site Services

Site Services (not to be confused with ‘Site Crew’) forms the central hub of communication for everything that happens on site, supporting delegates with any site issues and co-ordinating the functions of contractors and all other teams on site, ensuring the smooth running of the event. Unlike other stewarding teams, this team is based indoors.

  • Hours: 8 hours per day (on average) on a rotating shift pattern between 8am and midnight, shift patterns available to team members prior to the event.
  • Skills/attributes: Smiles, empathy, grace, good and clear communication skills, good record keeping skills, confidence and calmness under pressure.
  • Age: 18+

Stewarding – Night Team

This element of our team ensures the safety of the site, venues and delegates throughout the night. Ideally you will have served previously as a General Steward. You will spend most of your time outside walking the site. Duties include enforcing the ‘Silent Hours’ (curfew) protocol. Team members patrol the site on foot and communicate regularly with Team members in Site Services, who will complete a comprehensive Night Log. Should a disturbance or emergency occur, the Night Stewarding Team Leader will decide what further assistance is needed.

  • Hours: The team operates between midnight and 8am.
  • Expectation: You will spend much of your time standing/walking outside (whatever the weather), so warm clothing, waterproofs, sturdy footwear and stamina are essential!
  • Age: 18+
